Google Gadgets

Google gadgets provide people the ability to customize their iGoogle page. Google describes iGoogle as a personalized page "…that gives you at-a-glance access to key information from Google and across the web."[1] Anyone can create an iGoogle gadget and thus there are thousands available. I have found a need for a few gadgets and others seem to like them as well.

The National Geographic Photo of the Day gadget was the first gadget I built. My gadget pulls the picture off the National Geographic Photo of the Day page in addition to the brief description. I sold the location of the original gadget, but there are still ways to add my version.

The Wikipedia Photo of the Day gadget uses the same concepts as the National Geographic gadget. It too pulls the picture and brief description off the Wikipedia Photo of the Day site.

The Weather Channel Interactive Map gadget simply displays the newest map provided by the Weather channel. It superimposes weather data onto Microsoft Live Maps. I find this gadget to be one of the most useful gadgets available, but I have limited control over the interface.

The del.icio.us search gadget does exactly what it says. You provide your del.icio.us username and the module will live search your last 100 bookmarks. It packs all your links into a limited amount of screen space.

The Custom gBar gadget was made to provide a customized gBar. The gBar is the list of links at the very top of the site that say things like images, maps, news… This project has been abandoned.
